Science Club is a Big Hit!

The Science Club is in full swing at Clarksville Elementary. Leonard Elam and Amanda Hutchins oversee a very bright group of students who complete hands-on experiments. The students are required to use the scientific method to conduct the experiments. Experiments that the students have participated in include extracting DNA from a strawberry, testing substances to determine whether they are acids or bases using the PH scale, observing meal worms to classify their movement, physical characteristics and what stimulus affects them, using each of the students' five senses to discover if a substance is a solvent, solute, or solution, and using yeast to study its physical and chemical makeup and how it affects bananas.

Another activity involved students, faculty, staff, and Central Office personnel participating in a special Lunchtime Read Aloud activity.
Finally, thanks to the generosity of Katie Cummings we were fortunate to invite an Emmy Award Winning storyteller, Willa Brigham, who presented two student programs and a faculty workshop.
